Jay Z and Nicki Minaj: Big winners at the BET Hip-Hop Awards ceremony.

Last Saturday, Atlanta got ready to host one of the most prestigious hip-hop music awards ceremonies: The BET awards.

The VIACOM giant network put together an amazing ceremony in order to recognize the work of the most talented artists in the genre during the past year.

Nicki Minaj was one of the biggest winners of the night. The artist, whose style is greatly influenced by Missy Elliot’s unpredictable rhymes along with Lil’ Kim’s sensual attitude, picked up a total of three awards: Rookie of the Year, People’s Champ and the Made You Look award, which was awarded in recognition of her fashion flair. On the acceptance speech, she mentioned her work towards open up the path for female hip-hop artists: “I’m paving the way for girls,” she said. “I wanna thank all the girls of hip-hop.”

It was also a great night for Jay-Z, who unfortunately couldn’t make it to the ceremony. Beyonce’s husband obtained three awards as well: Perfect Combo (for his Alicia Keys-assisted “Empire State of Mind”), CD of the Year (The Blueprint 3) and Best Live Performer.

One of the most exciting moments of the ceremony was when legendary artist MC Hammer hit the stage to perform one of his hit: “2 Legit 2 Quit.”

The 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards, hosted by Mike Epps, is scheduled to air October 12 at 8 p.m. on BET.
