Rare Prince Photos: To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Prince’s iconic album “Purple Rain,” a collection of rare and previously unseen photos of the late music legend has been unveiled.

This release, courtesy of Sonic Editions, coincides perfectly with what would have been Prince’s 66th birthday on June 7th. The company, known for limited-edition photo prints of music stars, has partnered with photographers and archives to offer this exclusive collection dedicated to the Purple One.
A Landmark Album:
“Purple Rain,” released on June 25, 1984, was a watershed moment in Prince’s career. It not only topped the Billboard 200 chart for a staggering 24 weeks, but also went on to achieve 13x platinum certification by the RIAA, selling over 25 million copies worldwide. This landmark album birthed timeless classics like “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “I Would Die for You,” and the title track itself.
The limited-edition Prince photos from Sonic Editions are available in various sizes, ranging from small (14″ x 11″) to extra large (37″ x 26″), with prices starting at $149 and reaching up to $1,199. These photos offer a unique glimpse into the life and artistry of Prince, providing fans with a treasure to cherish.
The celebration of Prince’s legacy extends beyond these Rare photos. From June 20th to 24th, his Paisley Park estate will host a special musical tribute. This annual event will feature a performance by The Revolution (Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Bobby Z., Brown Mark, and Dr. Fink) reuniting to honor “Purple Rain” at 40. Joining them will be Morris Day, who famously appeared in the “Purple Rain” film, along with New Power Generation.

Expect themed panels, DJ dance parties, screenings of films from the “Purple Rain” era, and even a block party in downtown Minneapolis on June 22nd.
