Demi Lovato has decided it’s time to quit X Factor after serving as a judge for the past two seasons. Demi‘s departure has been confirmed by the show’s creator and fellow judge, Simon Cowell, Billboard reports.
When asked about the singer’s exit, Cowell revealed “I always knew she wasn’t coming back because she’s touring, so I knew that.”
The “Heart Attack” singer also confirmed the X Factor exit: “I started the show being a singer and a musician, and so I’m going to go back to that. It’s been really great, but I’m so excited for 2014. I’m going to dedicate it completely and entirely to music – touring and making a new album. Possibly releasing one.”
She also revealed that she will miss “being able to sit next to Kelly and Paulina and see them twice a week, and also helping mentor the contestants.”
A source also told PEOPLE that Lovato‘s reason for leaving the show is her music. “She plans to spend next year completely focused on her music. She had a great run and a good time.”
The singer, who is kicking off her first arena tour in February, also revealed that she plans to take the whole month of January off: “I want to vacation! I want to watch crime shows on my DVR on my couch … I need to do some exercising and I don’t really have time to do it. I love horseback riding and never get to do that stuff, but January is my time to do all of that.”
