According to recent reports, ‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry has died aged 54. The information released by law enforcement stated that Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub in his Los Angeles home at around 4pm on Saturday, but the cause of Matthew Perry death is yet to be determined.
Los Angeles Times and TMZ were the first outlets to air the sad news, and according to the latter’s sources, the American-Canadian star died a few hours after some physical activity that day.
Perry is said to have returned home from a 2-hour round of pickleball, after which he asked his assistant to run an errand for him. Upon returning home about 2 hours later, the assistant found the 54-year-old unresponsive in a hot tub and called 911.
Cause of Matthew Perry Death Still Under Investigation
No official cause of Perry’s death has been released since Sunday, as the investigation by the coroner is still ongoing.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told the CBS Los Angeles Station that Matthew Perry appeared to have drowned in a bathtub, but there were no obvious signs of trauma. There were no signs of drugs either.
Moreover, first responders suspected cardiac arrest, but it’s unclear if his activities that day played any role in his death. An autopsy was carried out and completed on Sunday, and the official news regarding his cause of death is pending following an ‘inconclusive’ post-mortem report which will lead to further investigations.
Perry Was Battling Addiction and Health Issues
In a memoir he put out in 2022, Perry chronicled how he had battled drug addiction and spent much of his time urging others to seek help as well. On top of his alcohol problem, Mathew is said to have been hooked on Vicodin for years and had visited the rehab a couple of times.
Besides, the actor dealt with health issues for some time, some of which led to him being hospitalized. At one point, he is said to have recovered from a gastrointestinal perforation after undergoing an emergency surgery.

In a joint statement released in People Magazine, other actors’ statement read as follows; “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
