It’s no secret to anyone that Cameron Diaz used to have acne. I remember Cameron‘s skin problems being exposed years ago by some paparazzi photos which showed her out and about without any makeup on. Our photo agency doesn’t have those photos, but I did dig up an old red carpet pic that shows off the actress’ struggle with breakouts as she got her big Hollywood break.
Time has passed and now Diaz has beautiful glowing skin – check out this recent makeupless photo of her – but she isn’t afraid to open up about her former acne problems and how it affected her.
In her new health and body image guide, The Body Book, the 41-years-old movie star revealed: “I mean, I had terrible, terrible, skin. It was embarrassing, and I did everything I could think of to make it go away. I tried to cover it with makeup. I tried to get rid of it with medication: oral, topical, even the harshest prescriptions. Nothing helped for very long.”
“It was really challenging to cover them up for the cameras. It was awkward and embarrassing and frustrating, and I always felt really bad about myself,” Diaz writes.
It wasn’t until she decided to “clean up” her diet that she noticed a change for the better: “I eat a cheeseburger with french fries every day,” she admitted. But as she approached 30s, “a funny thing happened … my skin began to clear up! My acne wasn’t totally gone, but it was significantly better.”
“Looking back, I realize that I hadn’t needed those prescription drugs, those vials of potions and creams. I hadn’t needed to be angry at my skin or feel bad about myself. I had just needed to LISTEN TO MY BODY. … acne was my body’s alarm system, it was mew ay of telling me [to stop eating fast food],” the actress concluded.
She is right, you know. I noticed the same thing about my skin. Although I never had serious problems like acne, I do have break-outs from time to time. They usually happen when my diet sucks and when I drink coffee. Also when I don’t rest well. As soon as I ditch the coffee and the bad food, my skin clears up and looks amazing. Which reminds me, I need to stop with the coffee.
