The Oscars 2024 , concluded with “Oppenheimer” dominating the evening, securing seven wins out of its impressive 13 nominations. The film had been a front-runner throughout the awards season, and its victory in categories like Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy came as no surprise to many industry insiders.
Robert Downey Jr. was honored with the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in “Oppenheimer,” adding to the film’s accolades for Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and the coveted Best Picture award. This made “Oppenheimer” the most awarded film of the night.
Following closely behind in nominations was “Poor Things” with 11 nods, ultimately winning four Oscars, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. “Killers of the Flower Moon” also received significant recognition with 10 nominations.
The ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the fourth time, kicked off an hour earlier than usual at 7:00 pm ET/4:00 pm PT at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Kimmel, known for his humor, didn’t hold back, jokingly criticizing the Academy for overlooking performances by Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig in “Barbie.”
