Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, played his first college basketball game for USC on Sunday, four months after he suffered a life-threatening cardiac arrest.
The 19-year-old guard scored four points and had three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 17 minutes of action, but his team lost to Long Beach State in overtime at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
After the game, Bronny thanked his family, his doctors, his coaches and his teammates for their support during his recovery.
Bronny James: “I’m thankful for everything”
“I just want to say I’m thankful for everything,” he said. “The Mayo Clinic, for everything they helped me with. Parents, siblings for supporting me through this hard time in my life. I just want to give appreciation for helping me through this. Also, my coach, my teammates, my other coaches who have been with me since the start.”
His father, LeBron, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, was in attendance with his youngest daughter, Zhuri, and cheered for his son from the front row.
Bronny James had a cardiac arrest in July during a preseason practice with USC. He was rushed to the hospital and spent some time in the intensive care unit. His family later revealed that he had a congenital heart defect that caused his condition.

His fans and friends congratulated him on his comeback and wished him well on social media. Many praised his courage and resilience in overcoming his health challenge.
