According to some news sources, former First Lady Michelle Obama is reportedly set to replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee, with the change expected to be announced at the Democratic National Convention in August, just three months before the presidential election.
This speculation comes in the wake of President Biden’s widely criticized performance at the first presidential debate, which has sent shockwaves through the Democratic Party. Political analysts and news organizations were unanimous in their criticism, highlighting Biden’s “hoarse and halting voice,” “unclear” answers, and apparent “struggle” to complete his thoughts.

Adding fuel to the fire, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) voiced his opinion on his podcast, stating,
“The odds are north of 80% that the Democratic Party will remove Joe Biden from the ticket and replace him with Michelle Obama. Biden did so disastrously badly tonight that Democrats across the country are in utter freefall and complete panic.”
Reports from the New York Times and Politico echo these sentiments, suggesting a growing concern within the Democratic Party regarding Biden’s reelection campaign. There are murmurs of strategists exploring ways to replace him on the ballot with numerous candidates including Michelle Obama, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
In the midst of these developments, Nikki Haley took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice her prediction:
“Mark my words… Biden will not be the Democratic nominee. Republicans, get your guard up!”
Former President Barack Obama attempted to downplay the debate’s impact, saying,
“Bad debate nights happen, but in the end, it is a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself.”
President Biden himself acknowledged the criticism, candidly admitting,
“I don’t walk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to. However, I would not be running again if I didn’t believe with all my heart and soul that I could do this job. The stakes are too high.”
Despite the swirling rumors, Biden’s campaign spokesperson, Michael Tyler, insisted there were no discussions about replacing the President.
“We’d rather have one bad night than a candidate with a bad vision for where he wants to take the country,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One.
As the Democratic National Convention approaches, all eyes will be on the party to see if these speculations come to fruition and whether Michelle Obama will indeed step in as the new Democratic nominee.
