Matt Prokop, the former child star and ex-boyfriend of Sarah Hyland, has been arrested in Victoria, Texas, on allegations of assaulting his girlfriend.
Victoria PD responded to a distress call on Saturday, where Prokop’s girlfriend reportedly confided in someone about the assault. By the time first responders arrived, the couple had already left the scene.
An hour later, authorities located Prokop and his girlfriend after receiving another call about a disturbance elsewhere in Victoria. According to Victoria PD Sergeant Dailey, during the investigation, it was revealed that Prokop had allegedly pushed his girlfriend and slammed her head into an object.
The injuries sustained by Prokop’s girlfriend were severe enough to justify his arrest.
Background on Matt Prokop
Matt Prokop, known for his roles in “The Office,” “Hannah Montana,” and “High School Musical 3,” has a history of troubling behavior. In September 2014, Sarah Hyland, his former girlfriend and star of “Modern Family,” filed for a temporary restraining order against him.
Hyland alleged that Prokop choked her and threatened her life, stating in court documents: “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life.” The restraining order mandated that Prokop stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog.
A month later, Hyland spoke publicly about the incident, sharing how she had moved forward from the alleged abuse. She quoted Dylan Thomas and Robert Frost to express her resilience and personal growth, stating, “People have to go through things in order to become the person they are today, and that’s that.”
Hyland has since found happiness with “Bachelor in Paradise” bartender Wells Adams. The couple married at Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California, in August 2022, after Adams proposed in July 2019 following two years of dating.
