Katy Perry was unflappable in Prague during her Lifetimes Tour when a fan waved a sign and offered a ring. He climbed into the moment, hopeful and a little theatrical. She laughed, then said, plain and quick: “No, I’m dating someone else!!!” The refusal landed like a small drumbeat—blunt, human, a little playful, and final.
Katy has been pretty open about spending time with her new boyfriend Justin Trudeau. They made a low-key birthday date in Paris and were being close on a yacht off California. Rumors began in July after a Montreal dinner and a stroll through Mount Royal Park. So when a stranger on a night out asked for forever, Katy’s answer wasn’t exactly a surprise.
A few fans may feel bruised. Some will laugh. Others will shrug and move on. Is it rude? Maybe to some. Is it honest? Definitely. She’s chosen a direction, and she’s not sugarcoating it on stage. Fans who hope for a dramatic yes will have to wait, or dream elsewhere.
This isn’t the first time she turned down a fan on stage—London saw a similar moment not long ago—so it’s becoming part of the live experience.
