Haliey Welch, famously known as the “Hawk Tuah” girl, has addressed and shut down rumors regarding her employment and personal life following her viral interview. On Monday’s episode of the “Plan Bri Uncut” podcast, the 21-year-old clarified misconceptions about her job and background.
Debunking Myths: The Real Story Behind Welch’s Viral Moment
Contrary to rumors, Welch revealed she was never fired from a teaching position because she has never been a teacher.
“I worked in a [bed] spring factory. I’m not a school teacher,” Welch explained. “I’m not even old enough to be a teacher.”
She also denied claims that she worked as a bartender in Nashville, Tennessee.
During the podcast, host Brianna LaPaglia inquired about another rumor of “Hawk Tuah” girl:
“Also, I’ve heard rumors that your dad is a preacher?” Welch humorously debunked this, stating, “My father is so far from a preacher, it’s crazy. None of it’s true at all.”
Welch catapulted to internet fame in June after sharing an explicit tip for oral sex during a man-on-the-street interview with Tim & Dee TV, where she coined the term “Hawk Tuah” and mentioned “[spitting] on that thang.” The candid moment quickly went viral, a result Welch did not anticipate.
“The one time I say something like that, of course, there is a camera in my face,” she added.
Despite the sudden spotlight, Welch is grateful for her family’s support. When asked about her parents’ reaction to the viral interview, she said,
“They think it’s so funny. They know how I am though because you can never tell what comes out of my mouth … I just talk out of my ass.”
Future Aspirations: Beyond the ‘Hawk Tuah’ Fame
Although Welch appreciates the attention, she is keen on shaping her identity beyond the “Hawk Tuah girl” persona.
“I don’t really want that to be my image,” she shared. “Hawk Tuah girl … I don’t want to be known as that.”
Welch is planning to navigate her newfound fame carefully, with aspirations of traveling to Los Angeles and New York, appearing on shows, and participating in more podcasts. “There is more to come, don’t worry,” she teased.
Her interview with LaPaglia took place shortly before the podcaster’s boyfriend, Zach Bryan, performed at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Welch even joined Bryan onstage to sing “Revival” and delivered her signature “Hawk Tuah” to the crowd.
