Prince Harry has flown to the UK to support his father, King Charles III, following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis. The Duke of Sussex arrived at Heathrow Airport in London on Tuesday after leaving Los Angeles International Airport in his black Range Rover on Monday. He traveled without his wife, Meghan Markle, who stayed in Montecito, California, with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Prince Harry made a “quick visit” to Clarence House to see Charles on Tuesday afternoon, according to sources. This visit came after Buckingham Palace announced Charles’ cancer battle. Harry had already spoken to his father following the diagnosis.
Charles’ cancer, which has not been specified, was discovered during a successful prostate procedure. The palace stated that Charles has begun a schedule of regular treatments and has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Despite his health issues, Charles will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.
Insights into Prince Harry’s Relationship with Charles
Charles ascended the throne in September 2022 after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Harry’s relationship with his father and the Prince of Wales became strained after he and Meghan resigned from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. The Sussexes have been vocal about their criticism of the monarchy and their family, leading to tensions within the royal family.
Although Harry and Charles have reportedly remained in touch despite their differences, it is unclear if Harry has reconciled with his brother, Prince William, amid their father’s diagnosis.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s team confirmed that Prince Harry had already spoken to his father following the diagnosis. They also shared that Meghan Markle, 42, would remain home in Montecito, Calif., with their two children: Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2. The renegade royal, 39, was planning to visit his dad, 75, after Buckingham Palace announced Charles’ cancer battle.
Charles’ cancer, which hasn’t been specified, was discovered during his successful prostate procedure. “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the palace said in a statement Monday. “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the palace added.
