Zendaya, the Emmy-winning star of Euphoria and Spider-Man, has surprised her fans by unfollowing everyone on her Instagram account on Wednesday. The 27-year-old actress, who has 194 million followers on the social media app, did not give any explanation for her drastic move, which came just days after she shared a poster for her upcoming movie Challengers.
Some fans speculated that Zendaya’s social media cleanse could be related to her busy schedule, as she is set to star in two major films in 2024: Dune: Part 2 and Challengers. Both of these films were delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA actor’s strike, which ended in October. Dune: Part 2, which also features Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh and other A-listers, will hit the theaters in March.
Challengers, directed by Luca Guadagnino, is a tennis-themed movie that will premiere in April. She plays the lead role in the film, alongside Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist.
Zendaya and Tom Holland’s low-profile romance
Zendaya has been relatively quiet on social media in the past few months, except for promoting her movies and occasionally showing love to her boyfriend and Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland. The couple, who met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016, has kept their relationship private and low-key, rarely displaying public affection or confirming their status.
In October, Zendaya denied engagement rumors that started after she posted a photo of herself wearing a large ring on her finger. She clarified that the ring was a pearl ring and not an engagement ring, and that she posted the photo for her hat, not for the ring. She also joked that she would not announce her engagement in such a casual way.
Whether Zendaya’s Instagram move is a publicity stunt, a personal choice, or something else, her fans will have to wait and see.
