Melissa McCarthy Condemns Unjust Attacks
“It bums me out for every woman and every person, that for no reason people just like to attack,” she said. “A smart interesting woman that has her own life, for some reason, is incredibly threatening to some people.”
McCarthy, who appeared in a video with Markle in 2021 to celebrate Markle’s 40th birthday and the launch of a mentorship program, praised the Duchess, calling her “wonderful” and “awesome.” She described Markle and Prince Harry as inspiring and praised their efforts to carve out their own lives.
Attending the premiere of “Suffs,” McCarthy admitted that she had to learn more about the women portrayed in the musical, including Alice Paul, Inez Milholland, Ida B. Wells, and Ruza Wenclawska.
She expressed a newfound appreciation for the women who paved the way for women’s rights, saying, “It’s really set me off into a wormhole of how much I really need to learn.”
