In a dramatic twist, Kelly Bensimon has called off her wedding to financier Scott Litner just four days before the ceremony. The former “Real Housewives of New York City” star confirmed the surprising split, citing her daughters as her top priority.
“I have decided that my two daughters are my priority, and I won’t be moving forward with this wedding,” Bensimon stated.
The sudden breakup with Litner, a twice-divorced father of three, was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, the same day Kelly Bensimon was scheduled to pick up her three wedding dresses from Kleinfeld’s. The couple had planned to exchange vows in a private ceremony in Litner’s mother’s backyard in Boston, surrounded by friends and family.
Kelly Bensimon, 56, recently enjoyed a mini bachelorette trip to Sandals Dunn’s River in Jamaica with her daughters, Sea, 26, and Teddy, 24. She and Litner had become engaged last year during a Fourth of July vacation to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, near Bensimon’s childhood home. They also had plans for a second celebration in the Hamptons. She was previously married to famed photographer Gilles Bensimon from 1997 until 2007.
“When I first met him, I didn’t even say anything. I was speechless — which is not like me, I always have something to say,”
Bensimon previously shared with People. “But he blew me away. He’s just a really special human.” In September, Bensimon listed her downtown apartment for rent at $28,500 a month and moved in with Litner.
Despite her initial excitement and even tearing up while trying on wedding dresses, Kelly Bensimon ultimately chose to focus on her daughters.
