Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie are two of the most iconic actresses in Hollywood, but their relationship was not always smooth sailing. The Catwoman star recently revealed that she and the Maleficent star had a “rocky start” while working together on their new film Maude v Maude, an action-comedy inspired by Mr. & Mrs Smith.
In an interview with Variety, Halle Berry admitted that she and Angelina clashed at first, but that it actually helped their chemistry on screen. “We had a rocky start and I think that is going to serve us well in our screen time together,” Halle said, adding, “[I’m] thrilled to work with another woman and craft a story without sensibility and from our point of view. She is formidable.”
Halle Berry, who also directed the film, did not reveal the details of their conflict, but promised that the story is a “good one.” The film follows the two actresses as they play rival spies who have to fight each other “physically and intellectually.”
Halle Berry: “We’ve been talking a lot about divorces”
But despite their initial differences, Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie managed to bond over their personal lives, especially their experiences with divorce and exes. “We’ve been talking a lot about divorces and exes,” Halle continued. “We bonded, let’s say that.”
Halle Berry finalized her divorce with French actor Olivier Martinez in August, after eight years of marriage. The couple share a 9-year-old son, Maceo, and agreed to joint physical and legal custody. The divorce proceedings took a long time because the parties wanted more clarity in regards to Maceo’s schedule and each of their respective time with their son, according to a statement by Olivier’s legal team.
Halle has since moved on with musician Van Hunt, whom she started dating in September 2020. The couple made their red carpet debut in 2021 and Halle has been gushing about her new love ever since. “I wish I had met him sooner so I could have loved him longer,” she told Women’s Health in September 2021. “I just feel fulfilled. I feel happy in my life romantically, as a mother, as an artist. I’m a much better mother in this circumstance than I would have been had I stayed in a romantic relationship that didn’t serve me and didn’t make me feel the way I need to feel as a woman.”
Angelina, on the other hand, is still in the midst of a bitter divorce and custody battle with her ex-husband Brad Pitt, whom she separated from in 2016. The couple have six children together, three of whom are adopted. Angelina has been fighting for sole custody of the kids, while Brad wants joint custody. The case has been complicated by allegations of domestic violence, substance abuse and parental alienation.
Angelina has also been focusing on her career and humanitarian work, as well as spending time with her children. She recently starred in the Marvel movie Eternals, where she played the warrior Thena. She also directed and produced a documentary called The Breadwinner, about a young girl in Afghanistan who disguises herself as a boy to support her family.
Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie may have had a rough start, but they have overcome their differences and become friends. We can’t wait to see them on the big screen together in Maude v Maude, which is expected to be released in 2024. It sounds like a fun and exciting movie that will showcase the talents and personalities of these two amazing women.
