Netflix has won the rights to distribute The Fifth Wheel, a comedy film starring and produced by Kim Kardashian. The reality star and entrepreneur will lead a female-driven cast in the romcom, which was written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito.
The Fifth Wheel is the result of a week-long bidding war among several distributors, who were interested in the project after Kardashian announced her involvement. Netflix secured the deal, which also includes a theatrical release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film’s plot and other cast members have not been revealed yet, but the script is expected to be hilarious and witty, as it comes from the minds of Pell and Brito, who are both award-winning comedians and writers. Pell is known for her work on Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock and AP Bio, while Brito is a stand-up comic and writer for shows like One Day at a Time and The Break with Michelle Wolf. The duo also co-star as a married couple in the comedy series Girls5eva, which recently moved to Netflix after two seasons on Peacock.

Pell and Brito will also serve as producers on The Fifth Wheel, alongside Kardashian, who is making her debut as a film producer. Kardashian has previously appeared in several scripted projects, both on TV and film, such as Drop Dead Diva, CSI: NY, Disaster Movie, Deep in the Valley and Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. She also had a guest role in the latest season of American Horror Story: Delicate, where she played a celebrity publicist.
Kardashian is best known for her reality TV shows, such as Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which ran for 20 seasons on E!, and The Kardashians, which is currently airing its fourth season on Hulu. She is also the founder of SKIMS, a shapewear and loungewear brand, and a law student who advocates for criminal justice reform.
The Fifth Wheel is expected to be a fun and fresh comedy that showcases Kardashian’s talent and charisma, as well as Pell and Brito’s humor and creativity. Netflix has not announced a release date for the film yet, but fans can look forward to seeing Kardashian on the big screen soon.
