Sometimes desperate times call for remarkable music initiatives. A new fundraising idea came up to help devastated Haiti courtesy of American Idol Simon Cowell.
One of the most beautiful REM songs “Everybody Hurts” will be covered by a bunch of artists like: Kylie Minogue and Robin Williams –who are delivering an spectacular duo- along with Mariah Carey, Susan Boyle, Bon Jovi or Rod Steward, among others.
REM also has contributed to the cause by waived royalties for the sale of the single. The song debuted on BBC radio last Tuesday 1.
After the terrible earthquake –which reportedly has caused the death of up to 200,000 people-, Cowell quickly recruited more than 20 stars in hopes of raising money on behalf of Haitian survivors.
The song can be ordered online at www.hmv.com, www.play.com and www.amazon.co.uk.
Also the new cover of “We are the World”, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie back in 1989 and produced by legend Quicy Jones, will be released by mid- February with the intention to getting funds to help Haiti.
